New wettest builds, the avatar editor in the windows/wine version will now actually let you load and save avatars...

Both the files are exactly the same and will run on linux or windows/wine but the .exe one is packaged into a windows installer.

If you know what you are doing get the .7z one, extract and the run either exe.bat or exe.sh to start.

If you do not know what you are doing then get the .exe and run it to install.

A new build of Yarn : Swordstone is up.

Windows installer http://get.4lfa.com/yarn.v11.951.exe
Linux/windows build http://get.4lfa.com/yarn.v11.951.7z
Love build http://get.4lfa.com/yarn.v11.951.love
Android build http://get.4lfa.com/yarn.v11.951.apk

Javascript build http://wet.appspot.com/yarn (slow but works in latest firefox or opera)

The android .apk will need you to download it on your actual phone. You must also set "Enable Unknown Sources" for apks to install. That setting can be found in Menu -> Settings -> Applications

#344601 posted by KrissD on 2011-12-09 08:52:59
I now seem to be the proud owner of working builds of android and nacl, pepper_15 seems to finally be usable point for nacl.

These builds don't actually do anything, apart from build some libs and lots of other code needs messing around with.

Mostly the GL code, I think I will aim for GLES2 as it seems to be becoming the standard for browsers and phones.

Shame that knocks out older pcs, will have to try and come up with something clever to maintain support for them.

I think maybe a simple text build of yarn for the android will be the next step.

Oh yeah, there is a mostly broken build of the new wetville available here http://get.4lfa.com/wettest.v11.894.7z

Un7zip and run exe.sh or exe.bat and it will probably work in linux or windows.

The avatar editor is in there too.

Lots of stuff disabled in both though, this test build is really only for the curious...

Sorry it so very very very slow. This is due to using a C lua interpreter compiled into javascript. Not the most optimized of situations :)

I am going to declare a first playable release of Swordstone.

Maybe it isn't very playable, but it is playable. You can collect stuff and kill things and die and there is even a working tutorial level.

Get a win or linux version at http://get.4lfa.com/yarn.v11.900.7z unpack and run yarn/exe.bat or yarn/exe.sh to start.

Or install love from http://love2d.org/ and then get the love version at http://get.4lfa.com/yarn.v11.900.love this one should also work on apple machines.

Both should play more or less the same.

Please to be complaining here if there are any problems as I would really like to know about them.

Region locking and youtube and you.

Since region locking is a rather horrible thing to happen on the internets and gets us into all sort of fucked up complicated situations.

Now, if a video is detected as unplayable in *any* country, wetv will refuse to play it for *everyone* (as if it had embed disabled)

Does this suck?

However it produces a consistent problem and consistent problems encourage user based solutions.

No longer will there be situations where only some people can see a playing video.

Remember kids, the problems of today are legal not technical.

Have spruced the new taste of wetv up a little bit.

There is now a fix button in the top left of chat. Pressing this will attempt to fix things. Useful when youtube has got its knickers in a twist and the player has an overlay stuck on it for no reason.

The you tube player now uses the youtube html5 api, so will possibly work without flash if you opt in here http://www.youtube.com/html5 and the video you wish to play contains no adverts.

Room and user lists should sort by level then by name.

News tab on top right will contain important news and updates, like this one.

You can now auto join rooms using links, like so http://wet.appspot.com/wetv#tv.classic

Dear naive Internets,

Sometimes the perceived under dog is the bigger cunt.

Do you think someone should trademark the word scrolls, I mean it is pretty generic and as dangerous thing to trademark as the word windows, right?

Anyone who would claim the word scrolls as their own and no one else's is a cunt right?

Q. So why are Bethesda attacking poor little notch?

A. Because notch is claiming the word scrolls.

Notch is not just making a game with the word scrolls in the title, notch is in fact claiming ownership of the word scrolls.

And the internets filling up with "poor notch being attacked by these idiots that think they can own the word scrolls."

NOTCH THINKS HE CAN OWN THE WORD SCROLLS, these are counter attacks.

People who try and trademark generic words are cunts.

In this case, that person is notch.

A quick google to see if "gorden freeman bennett" is a well used term since it seems like such an obvious gag. The only thing I hit is a comment in some gameartfag aftermath so I guess it's not been used much.

But FFS is it impossible to ignore this gameartfag crap?

Just die already with the promotion of first year art student tripe as if it means that games are finally a worthwhile artistic medium.

Of course games are art, games "journalism" however is not and never will be no matter how much you treat it like a creative writing course.

I just got bit by this strange java appengine bug.

Store a Boolean.FALSE value in memcache. (I'm using the lowlevel API)

Retrieve this value from memcache.

(value instanceof Boolean) is still true
(value.booleanValue()) is still false

( Boolean.FALSE.equals(value) ) is no longer true

It seems it comes out of memcache as a slightly different false value?

Maybe this is normal Java serialise/unserialise behaviour?

This came as a bit of a shock to me since the value I was caching was of the admin=false setting in a users session. So this bug granted admin abilities to everyone (Yay!) and was only triggered when I added some better caching to the user sessions.

Anyhow I'm all fixed now that I've worked out what I think was going on but it stills seems to be strange behaviour.

http://boesky.blogspot.com/2011/02/googles-pimp-hand-is-strong-dirty.html I agree, Google and android are not going to rescue us from Apple On Line.

Proof of this are the way google recently joined forces with spil group. http://googlecode.blogspot.com/2010/09/get-your-html5-game-on.html

Proof of spil groups evil can be found here. Where they seek to limit external links within games to ONE, yes one link in total. Even if this game is in no way paid for by them.

Its like refusing to link to a website unless that website contains no external links...

Ignore FGL in that thread, they are as big a part of the problem as spil group. Even if they think they are the good guys, they are really just middle men. I suspect we can chart the rise of FGL with the commoditization and failure of flash games.

Apparently movies suck because of "attention spans and narrative tastes were already being recalibrated by MTV and video games."

Which is strange because I'm pretty sure games suck because of movies and movies of games suck because of ewwww a boil.

Not to mention that the MTV of the past is now considered a sacred place. A place free of the horrors of reality TV. A place where strange narrative animation was nurtured (even if the animation wasn't very animated).

So yeah yeah the film industry is shit, so is the games industry so is the music industry. Can you see the word that keeps getting repeated? Maybe that word is the one causing the problem.

Sure this is a throw away line in the middle of http://www.gq.com/entertainment/movies-and-tv/201102/the-day-the-movies-died-mark-harris?currentPage=all but if film buffs could avoid the movies are the only true art form of the 20th century bullshit. I would have more sympathy for them.

PS inception is actually not as good as Paprika but don't let that bother you.

Steam is a gated content provider in the same way that consoles are a gated content provider. In order to get content through these gates you need to suck the right cock.

No matter how good a game it still has to suck this cock in order to get onto steam. Maybe it does so by proxy of a publisher but it still does it.

Most developers would love to have their game on steam, it is more distribution visibility etc. This is however often not an option, steam says no, because steam is special and steam picks and chooses only the best.

This is an example of how power in the games industry has been shifting from publisher to distributer.

What this also means is that steam can be held 100% responsible for choosing the content in has available and promotes.

There is a line.

Crosses this line.

Go fuck yourself steam, fuck yourself in the face. In fact I think I might have to add steam as a default swear word.

Not since aquaria was released to manufactured applause has a game united the circle jerk indie community like Sword & Sworcery EP.

Maybe under all the hyperbole it is good, but honestly it just sounds like windowpane with pixels. A pleasant enough art toy but not much in the way of game or lasting appeal.

If the faggots lorded the same amount of praise over (for instance) games from eyemaze I would forgive them. That they do not simply exposes the pure hypocritical nature of the hyperbole.

For the next week there will be nothing but focused press releases by the indie community for the indie community about the indie community provided of course it is the indie communities chosen one.

This is not a step forward, this is the same old tired shit. Hype is the problem not the solution.

Fuck that bollox, go play some of these instead, less hype more soul.

On another note I always wondered why qwop and his other games got so much indiefag press. Most flash games are ignored and these are by no means exceptional. Neither do they fit the indiefag game mould.

One more click and we have a reasonable handle on the situation.

Academic fags suck each others cocks as much as religious fags do. Since this one has a jesus email address and writes papers on the ethics I can only assume that it is the combination of the two.

My suspicions of a secret church cabal within the indiefag community is supposed to be a joke guys.

they who are mudded can not challenge, or indeed talk to the bot at all.

reg thunderdome victim

both participents must say this

then every time you talk you will attack and reg will tell you the current status. I recomend typing insults.

The longer time between insults the more powerful they will be.

if no one talks then reg will pick a winner after 30ish secs

that is all

However kickstarter is just another middle man.

Taking advantage of human flocking behaviour and then extracting a toll for access to a clump of consumers.

This is known as a creating a win win situation, one where everyone involved profits.

Especially the guy in the middle.

Who in this case took 2 million bux. That's their 5% of 40 million -> http://blog.kickstarter.com/post/5014573685/happy-birthday-kickstarter

After a lot of pain trying to get lua / wsapi / fcgi apache workign together. The following script helped a lot. http://snipt.net/jnwhiteh/install-lua-and-luarocks-into-a-sandboxed-directory/ By keeping lua and rocks modules contained it stops the global DLL hell that is linux :)

Turns out it is just system wide config/installs breaking everything.

All of the server code has been moved again. again. again. Mostly living in HG now. Please to be complaining about anything this breaks. Also we should now see less spammy looking imported post titles in the forum.

Fixed some broken server side paths so that cthulhu should no longer whisper goatse into your ears whilst you sleep.

Just a reminder that old media is a problem that must be destroyed. I suspect 12yr* olds create better games than this and post them to newgrounds every single day of the fucking year.

*some of these 12yr olds may be 35 IRL.

I have just invented a new game genre, it is called "Poke and hope." It is either hidden object or peggle/pachinko, I have not decided yet.

Which if my calculations are correct, means that there is now one less reason to own a PSP.

Here is the exact problem with super hyperbole brothers made flesh.

A page of nuovo hyperbole masquerading as a review followed by a confused reader asking the most basic of question.

"So, um, what do you do? Is it a point-and-tap puzzle game? I couldn’t work it out from the review."

Having neglected to mention anything about the game the games journalist has successfully devolved into a music journalist.

Pagerank for writers is like catnip for cats or metacritic for game publishers. Its all pretty much the same problem. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/06/beyond-pagerank-graduating-to.html

I tend to lump animation and games industries together since they share similar problems.

One of these problems is that dumb writers often ascend to positions of powah and then create shite, they are just not focused on the strengths of the medium in which they are working.

Behold the problem explained in cartoon form.

Here is a nice rant about how to be a game designer.

With perhaps an over emphasis on documentation, writers sure do like to bang their little hammer.

Unfortunately there is one other detail ommited.

If you are not capable of working all of that out for yourself and already putting it into practice when you where 10.

Then I doubt you are cut out for the job.
